Love Me Electric

Is it summer yet?

When all these papers are finished I'll feel less swamped, I suppose. Not that I should complain, they're about Chucky/Child's Play and Frank Zappa. Those are pretty great topics to have to write about. But not good enough that it doesn't feel like a chore.

What doesn't feel like a chore are these awesome Ed Gein/horror themed pillows for the lovely DeadDolly. They're roughly 20" made with bleach on black cotton jersey. Super comfy pillows if you don't mind relaxing on a gutted, headless corpse.

Rock Dreams

Usually when I have studio visits, at least so far, I get a lot of "oh you should look at (insert Renn. or Dutch painter here)" or suggestions to look at completely unrelated abstract/conceptual artists that are only vaguely similar to things I'm doing. But yesterday was pretty awesome.

Thanks to Rich I found a copy of Guy Peellaert's Rock Dreams book to look through. I'd only seen a few of his paintings. Including this one of Marc Bolan, which is one of my favorite paintings in the world, and I'm gonna scan the book so I can have a pretty copy to look at until I can afford to buy the book. shhhh. Until then here's the version from his website

So gorgeous. That little picture doesn't do it justice, he really needs bigger pictures on the site. There are some other really good ones too, like Bowie and Lou Reed, Alice Cooper, etc. For the most part I'm not super fond of his subjects except those few, or the saturated color style, but I love that he did things very similar to what I'm interested in, and he made it work.

But of course then Carole had to kill my buzz today by saying, yet again, that he was pure illustration without any content, blah blah blah. Whatever, his paintings were bitchin', that's all that matters.

I'm gonna finish Phil, Donnie, Tom, and Billy as technique practice, and then I've got some really neat ideas (to me at least) for the next paintings. And if I'm lucky they'll be half as pretty as Guy's painting of Marc.

Here's his website with lots more crappy tiny pictures of his work: Click Click

Curse you, oil paint!

I was lusting over Doc Hammer's paintings tonight and cursing my poor Cock Rock; Shock Pop pieces drying in the corner for not looking like his girlz in braz. They'll get there. And Phil will totally be prettier. ;)

But if you haven't seen them, you should head on over to his DA page and look at his paintings. If the name sounds familiar it's 'cause he makes Venture Bros too.

Hmm, and since I'm listening to Leather Boyz, I'll put a little PBF for tonight.

That's some saucy pelvic thrusting, Steve. I can't decide whether to paint Steve or Kristy for Cock Rock. Both? I dunno. Same as my Taime/Brent dilemma, though Brent is ahead by a landslide in that one 'cause he didn't jump ship to the goth/industrial trend and ruin a fuckin' awesome band like SOMEBODY did. I still kinda love you, Taime, but wtf. Just wtf.

Note to self: Faster Pussycat next time.
