I'm so far behind, I think I'm first!

Holy fuck balls, so much has happened since I last posted! Shame on me. But I have good excuses, lots of fabulous excuses.

1. Hollywood DC was a blast! From reception to viewing party and beyond, it was one of my favorite WOW shows, and I'm still stoked to have been a part of it. Big heaping thanks to James. :)

2. But wait, there's more! If you're in the LA area, you must come to the opening of December's show. Because not only will it be entirely $99 art, and who doesn't love a bargain, but I'm gonna have these adorable little bleach pieces in the show.

Each is 5x7" on cotton jersey, stretched over a wood frame. A few are embellished with shiny bits, 'cause what's Columbia without her sequins? I'll also be submitting a piece to January's show, but you'll have to wait for news on that.

The show opens Dec 4th at world of wonder, 6650 Hollywood Blvd, 8pm

3. Here's the random little piece that inspired those ^^. Also 5x7"

4. One of my classes is an intro to craft techniques. The basics of needlepoint, knitting, and so on. But the second half is metal work...much more my thing. Here's my first project! I beat the shit out of some copper, cut it into guitar picks, and lit it on fire. Brutal!

Now they've all got holes and jump rings and chains. Not bad for a first try, and I love torched copper.

I also torched a bigger square piece to do a painting on. I'm thinking Michael Monroe, but not entirely sure yet.

5. SO. MUCH. ART. I've cranked so much out in the last couple months it's kinda insane. For me. Who usually only manages a few pieces. Here's a check list of what's in the works or finished. Keep an eye out here, or myspace, or my website for the finished pictures.
-- James St. James, 'cause I'm pretty sure painting him is some kind of addiction.
-- Triplets Triptych, this is almost done! Getting there. I know as soon as I finish it I'm gonna wanna start a new one of these beauties.
-- Rocky Horror series, done!
-- Phil Lewis painting, almost done! I told Phil about this months ago, I'm sure he's forgotten or assumed I forgot. Never!
-- Clockwork Orange piece, done!
-- Glam killers, ...undecided. I've done a couple. Might do more.
-- James and Michael, two random little bleachy things, done!
-- Roxy Vayn painting, another random lovely. 25% done.

And then like three things I'm planning to start, and some side project commissions for people. Don't worry if you don't see it listed, it's on my schedule too!

Phew. So much to do, so little time. But so far the stuff I've been making is really really cool, and my senior show is gonna be awesome.

And now, I sleep.

Lights...camera...election!

Thursday night I slowly worked my way through ungodly LA traffic up to Hollywood for world of wonder's star studded reception for the Hollywood DC show. Fun!

Yaaay.

And my shirt I made to wear

Groove a little, baby...

I'm making one of a kind t-shirts in my printmaking independent study. Screenprinting is handy for making lots of the same design, but I've been combining it with bleach to make unique individual shirts. Yay.

Here's a couple of the first ones I made for myself.

Made for the WOW opening. I scanned in my piece and burned a screen with the image, then bleached the background and printed on top. Lovin' the silver text.

Bleached background and about 4 layers of screenprinting.

Coming soon to my shop! Email or message me if you'd like a custom one. They're also handy if you're in a band or whatever and would like to sell/auction off a one of a kind autographed piece of merch.

Marc Bolan worries about you...

He does.

But you seem ok.

A couple random bleachy things. I've got some new big ones planned. Wee.

*Squeal!*

Omgz! Guess who gets to be in the next world of wonder show? Yaaay. If you're in LA, come check it out on the 23rd, from 8-midnight. On Hollywood Blvd.

I'll be making random little happy noises for the rest of the month.

Clorox Glamour

I'm working on a new project combining bleach with silkscreening. These are the first test prints, using the screen still sitting around from the poster in the last entry.

How hot are they? I'm really happy with the top left and bottom right, but maybe I'm distracted by the shiny shiny gold. I think Bowie will be my next screen.

I loooove it so far, can't wait to see what else I can do with it.

You can trip the light fantastic...

A screen print I made with two other chicks in my class. 3 colors, 3 screens on neon pink poster board. 11x17" prints. I have one extra that I'll be putting up on etsy tomorrow, yay.

It's the lovely Waltpaper, who has approved of the fabulously bright print. :D

Marc Bolan later.

Triple Threat

99.9% of the time I draw portraits. But...I technically can draw other things. Sketched this up tonight for the boys in Snake of Eden (which includes those lovely identical triplets).

Bitchin'.

Boobs N' Needles

Holy crap yesterday was a busy day. I guess I'll just go chronologically.

8am- Arrived at my craft elective. We were doing needlepoint. This is what I made

It's about 10x14"-ish. A lot of people chose puppies and flowers and stuff. I...didn't. :P The class is so funny, like an art student sewing circle. Except mine was definitely not your grandma's needlepoint.

11am- Printmaking, weeee. I'm doing my own independent study since I've already taken the class before, but I sat in on the screen printing demo project for fun. In a group of three we're making an edition of 10 prints using 3 colors and at least one image and one bit of text. And my group is doing a club kid-inspired poster. Totally not even my idea! lol No one believes me, but another girl in the group was listing stuff about each group member's work, and the two of them decided club kids were totally the most fun poster. And naturally I agreed. So next Friday I'll be printing those. Yay.

6pm - After a full James St. James filled day, it was time to cram even more JSJ into it with the real deal. The WOW Dollypop opening! Fun fun. There's a picture out there of me with Ure, Pep, Ollie, Shelly, etc... I'll post that when I see it. In the meantime, here's some pictures I took of the artwork before I got distracted.

Let's see, I was also on camera being rejected by a random straight guy when James' matchmaking attempt failed miserably (LOL), chatting about my fabulous paintings, and trying to spell my bitch of a last name. I'm guessing none of that will make it to the final edit, luckily. Except the being rejected part was REALLY funny, so it's a shame people won't see that.

Aaaand, I didn't get to bed until 4am, was up early this morning to help take down Sweet 'N Low, and...I could use a good long sleep. And yet I have so much more to do!

It never ends.

Sweet 'N Low

Pictures from my senior studio group's show that opened tonight. Lots of good (pink) food, lots of people, lots of art.

Mine is the cluster of small works on the left. 9 of the bleach pieces, Nicki, and Billy Idol.

If you're wondering about the crooked hanging, essentially what this series of group shows is, is each section of seniors putting up what they've made so far. Because my group went first, we had to use work from junior year, and there was obviously no theme whatsoever. Since it was really varied work, we united it with a more visually interesting hanging style that made it cohesively random...basically.

The title is also just random, catchy, and made a good visual for the signage/promos, BUT it did end up being funny when our theme was all pink and "sweet 'n low", and the work was killers...pooping...gunshots...nudes... Very non-cutesy.

And now, full of cookies and jelly beans, I'm off to continue working on my needlepoint project of James St. James. Yay.

1 down, 14 to go...

I have survived one week as a senior! Hooray. Some ups, some downs, but it was a good enough start. Here's a play by play preview of what I'll be posting sketches, WIPs, and various other tidbits of throughout the next couple months.

1. Two very fabulous drawings/paintings on paper related to the "natural" and "unnatural". Not sure about the details yet, but there's sure to be beautiful boys. There always is.

2. Paaaaintings. My group was drawn to display first in the "preview" gallery shows, so I'm working on putting that together for the next week and a half. But after that, the paint will be a flyin'. AND I'll put up pictures of our gallery show. It's gonna be hot.

3. Some crafty business. Fiber arts for the next 8 weeks. But it'll still be fabulous.

4. PRINTS. I'm retaking Printmaking for elective credit and got permission to use it as independent study time instead of repeating all the demos. I'm working on a really cool idea that will result in A LOT of prints. Fun.

And of course writing my thesis, but I won't bore anyone with that. More pretty boys, less talky.

All byyyy myseeeelf

Last day of summer! How sad. I've been doing noooothing all day, for the last time until christmas. Even at christmas I'll probably be frantically busy. :(

Joker is now on Etsy, linked on the left there.

I'll continue making bleach things off and on, but at a slower pace than I have been. I'm sure my lungs will thank me.

So! Next up on my social agenda is Sept 12th at the WOW storefront gallery. Be there! I will be. WOW is on hollywood blvd a couple blocks down from highland. You can google it. There will be music, booze, me, and lots of fabulous art themed around Dolly Parton. So boobies too. If you go, I'll be the redhead probably wearing gold and black snakeskin pants. Say hi.

Catfight

So how fabulous was project runway? I do love me some drag queens. And total failure outfits, which there's been a LOT of this season. When I look back at the first season, once the shower curtain outfit and star's tumor dress were weeded out, there weren't too many hot messes. Not the majority at least. But this season has been more fun for the total wrecks than any amazing outfits. Being a snarky bitch, I'm cool with this.

Speaking of bitches, if you don't frequent the project rungay blog, you must see the interview with Hedda Lettuce HERE.

My summer is over on MONDAY. So sad. I will, of course, be producing a TON of work because of that, but I can't put any of it up for sale. So I dunno how much new stuff will be available in the next 6 months.

I'm also pondering having a drawing for some free stuff. We'll see.

Until then, I leave you with a reminder that I have an ebay auction up HERE and there has been much added to my etsy shop over on the left.

It's a bad obsession...

Moooore? Oh my.

Frankie! I love this one.

Robert Plant. Om nom nom.

Jon Bon Jovi

Aaaand a girl from another online community I'm in recently sat next to Shatner on a plane, so from all the Shat-Love that was going around, I did a quickie of him too.

All are in my etsy shop, linked at the left. I have so many ideas left to do! Good thing I have so much jersey. I think Nikki Sixx will be next. Hm. Yes.

bleach as far as the eye can see

I have a huuuuge supply of jersey now, so I've been going crazy with the bleach.

8.5x11"

11x13"

I've left them unmounted so they can be hung/framed or sewn into a bag/top/whatever. Lots more to come! I've got Robert Plant, Frank-n-Furter, and Andy Warhol ready to photograph and list. Bowie and Ville are in my etsy to the left. Yay.

pick a card, any card

I'm still wildly in love with my custom guitar picks, but I needed some biz cards for more casual handing out. I'm not made of money with those picks. :P

Hot. And I can write shit on the back of these. Who wouldn't want Billy Idol on their biz cards?
